Dear [firstname],
Congress has been out of session for the past few weeks, which means I’ve had more time back home in Pennsylvania—my favorite part of this job. While the work in Washington often makes the headlines, some of the most meaningful work we do happens right here in our community.
Every day, my casework team helps people cut through red tape at federal agencies like the IRS, Social Security Administration, and Department of Veterans Affairs. When a tax refund is delayed, Social Security benefits are held up, or a veteran cannot get the care they have earned, figuring out where to turn can be frustrating and overwhelming. That is where we come in.
Since coming to office in 2019, our team has helped return more than $70 million to people across our community. But that number tells only part of the story. Here is what your neighbors have told us:
My team was able to resolve a Social Security issue for Jon. He told us:
“Tasha, from your office, stepped in on a Social Security issue that I had been trying to resolve for two years – including ten separate trips to my local SSA office. Once engaged, she got things moving in a matter of days. Literally, she saved me tens of thousands of dollars and maybe over $100K in my lifetime. A big deal!! Her follow-through, diligence, and professionalism were exceptional. She didn’t just respond; she stayed with it, checked in, and made sure nothing slipped through the cracks.”
Before connecting with my team, Rosemary had waited two months for a delayed Social Security benefit. Here’s what happened once we stepped in:
“[in] my last phone call to SSA requesting the status of my April 2026 benefit, I was told ‘... it is now a Congressional issue.’ That was Monday, June 8 and by June 10, my benefit was in my bank account.”
William was trying to secure a copy of his DD214 form (a Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty for a military servicemember). He writes:
“After visiting Dept. of Veterans Affairs, West Chester, PA, and not receiving results in eight months, I contacted Rep. Houlahan’s office. In a rather short period of time, I had results and a copy of the DD214. The communication with Rep. Houlahan’s office was excellent.”
After being overcharged for Medicare due to outdated Social Security data, Ellis had trouble getting SSA to correct the issue. That’s where my office came in:
“I believe that Representative Houlahan and her staff distinguished themselves in relentlessly pursuing this problem and running it to ground. Even during periods where the wheels were grinding slowly, they remain engaged and kept me updated. They were differentiated in getting results, where others seemed to be just going through the steps but not evidencing anything close to ownership and accountability (both Republican and Democrat). I owe a debt of gratitude to Rep. Houlahan and her staff.”
Susan came to our office for help getting a tax refund, and shared this about her experience:
“After two years of my mom’s passing and several attempts of my own dealing with the IRS, I was referred to Representative Houlahan’s office for assistance. Conor continued to follow up with me throughout the process. The continued communication was very much appreciated and gave me the hope and the confidence that I would receive my deceased mother’s final tax refund. I have now been able to close this last piece of her financials thanks to Conor and Representative Houlahan. THANK YOU!!”
When Michelle unexpectedly received a notice from SSA that her family owed thousands in backpay for disability benefits, she reached out to us. Michelle writes:
“I believe, without a doubt, that we would not have had such a favorable outcome if it were not for the assistance of Tasha. She was amazing with communication both with us and with SSA. We still had to put in the work, but she guided us and advocated for us every step of the way. We are so thankful for the help we received from your office, and the outcome. Thank you!”
Carol had trouble contacting the IRS about a tax refund, so she reached out to us. In her words:
“I couldn’t be more pleased with the experience by the Representative’s staff. Everyone was polite, concerned, and efficient. Passing an IRS issue to someone was liberating and stress-relieving. Sincerest gratitude.”
David came to our office for help after his 2025 taxes were initially rejected. In his words:
“Representative Houlahan's staff were incredibly helpful in helping me resolve my family's tax situation regarding possible identity theft. I have been a longtime supporter of the Representative and appreciate all she does for her constituents. But I honestly did not expect her office to be able to help with something like this, something quite this personal that really only effects one family. It shows she truly cares about each family that she represents.”
Before I go, I want to acknowledge a challenge we are seeing across the federal government. Since January 2025, the federal workforce at major agencies has shrunk by more than 250,000 employees as part of the Trump Administration’s government overhaul. Constituents are feeling the effects through longer wait times and slower responses from the federal agencies we rely on. This reality can never be an excuse for poor service from my office. My casework team will continue to respond, keep you informed, and press agencies for answers. You deserve timely, personal service from your government, and we will keep doing everything we can to provide it.
To my award-winning Constituents Services team, Sue, Donnell, Tasha, Sari, Conor, Anum, Giancarlos, Daniel, Anne, Chris, and Lauren: thank you! Our office couldn’t do this work without you.
Finally, to Jon, Rosemary, William, Ellis, Susan, Michelle, Carol, and David: I am so glad we were able to help. Serving you – and our entire community in Chester and Berks Counties – as your representative in Congress is a privilege, and the gratitude is all mine.
