News from Chrissy!

Dear [firstname],

I am best able to represent our community when I hear directly from you. Your stories, triumphs, and hardships drive the work I do at home in PA and down in Washington. Last week, I heard from many small business owners, students, and workers about the unique challenges they are facing during this COVID-19 pandemic. I remain focused on helping our community safely reopen, using science to drive our decisions.

Our challenges are many, but we are a resilient community--I see that every day. I know time is precious these days (especially for all our caregivers and teachers out there!), so I want to highlight one exciting project we are doing in case you aren't able to read our entire e-newsletter. On Monday, we are launching our "Voting Safely in 2020" series! Every week, you all will have the opportunity to call in and ask special guests and me questions about the upcoming election: deadlines, how to safely vote in person, voting from home, and more. We hope you can join us. Thank you again for the honor of serving our community.

In This E-Newsletter You Will Find:

ICYMI: Racial Disparities in Health Care Town Hall

Thank you to everyone who joined our live Facebook town hall with Rep. Lauren Underwood about racial disparities in health care--our second in our Antiracism Policy Series. Her expertise as a registered nurse was insightful, and I'm so appreciative she could join us. We were also joined by Vanessa Briggs, President and CEO of Brandywine Health Foundation. What We're Working On

Fighting the Devastating Effects of Spotted Lanternflies on Local Crops

Last week, I visited Anthony and Karen Vietri, owners of Va La Vineyards, to see firsthand how the invasive species, the spotted lanternfly, has negatively impacted their crop yield and sales. There, I convened a group of local leaders in the agricultural space as well as top researchers from Penn State University to discuss the ongoing efforts to rid our community of this invasive species once and for all.

My visit at Va La Vineyards confirmed the work ahead of us in combating the spotted lanternfly. In Congress, I’m working with my colleague from across the aisle, Rep. GT Thompson (R-PA) to provide the necessary resources to fight this pest. Building on the funds we secured last year for this community, I led our delegation – Democrats and Republicans – in advocating an increase of funding for spotted lanternfly research and control by $4M, from $12M to $16M at the USDA. I am happy to announce today that the Committee fulfilled my request, and I voted to pass this increase in funding through the House on July 24th. I’m hopeful that this funding will be upheld by the Senate. It's crucial that we continue efforts at a both local and national level to eradicate this invasive species. Our agriculture sector is so important to our community.

Discussing Community Safety with our Law Enforcement

Last week, I met with the Phoenixville Police Department and Mayor Peter Urscheler. I appreciate the opportunity to have a constructive conversation with them and discuss the safety of our community.

I also answered their questions about legislation, such as the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. These are challenging times for many in our community, Commonwealth, and country. We must continue to come together and work with one another to address the problems we face.

Engaging with Renewable Energy Innovations

Did you know the Southeastern Chester County Refuse Authority (SECCRA) converts enough methane gas into electricity to power over 1,400 homes in our community? SECCRA is not only a landfill, but it also provides educational programming on recycling, creates renewable energy from landfill gas, and treats wastewater.

I was very grateful to hear from their staff and technicians about how they are planning for a sustainable future. In fact, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized SECCRA Power as its 2007 Project of the Year for their work in landfill gas electricity production!

Supporting Sustainability Programs at Lincoln University

I joined Lincoln University students and administrators to celebrate their new sustainable food production programs! A few months back, I was thrilled to hear they received a grant from the National Science Foundation, which they're now using to introduce students to careers in STEM.

Empowering students from all backgrounds drives success. I’m proud that Lincoln University, the United States' first degree-granting HBCU, and other minority-serving institutions will continue to receive federal funding to provide vital opportunities for their students to learn and innovate through the FUTURE Act.

Reflecting on Entrepreneurship and Conservation at Longwood Gardens

In so many ways, Longwood Gardens reflects the essence of our community: an entrepreneurial spirit, conservation of our open spaces, a love of engineering and innovation, and education for the betterment of our community. Like thousands in our community and across the world, I'm so fond of visiting the grounds with my family whenever we can. Our team pulled back the "curtain" and got to hear about their exciting expansion plans for the future. (I won't spoil the surprise!)

I heard about their school partnerships, connecting students with activities that will spark their curiosity and passion for horticulture and sustainability. As the founder of the Women in STEM Caucus, I shared my excitement about their programs focusing on diversity and inclusion through their workforce development. Longwood Gardens is truly a gem of our district. As always, I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Delivering for Our Community: Constituent Services

When I'm out in the district and in our community, I loving hearing constituents tell me how our office has helped them resolve their issues. We have a dedicated team, and I'm so proud of their work. To date, we have closed over 1,583 cases and returned an incredible $3,593,599 to the district. Rest assured that we will continue to fight for you.

If you are having an issue with a Federal Agency, fill out our form and our team will contact you! We also invite you to read more success stories here

Remember, our website is always a resource for you and your family. We've recently added a voter information page to ensure those eligible are able to exercise their right to vote this November.
