It was my great honor earlier this week to host the 90th Town Hall of my tenure as your Representative. I hope you were able to join us Monday evening but if not, I’m going to use this week’s newsletter to recap my legislative update and provide you with voter resources we shared so that you are prepared to exercise your Constitutional right to vote as a United States citizen. We conducted a poll during the town hall asking listeners if they had a plan to vote. I am thrilled to report that 97% of respondents said they do have a plan. Data shows that those who have a plan to vote are more likely to follow through with those intentions and actually vote. That’s wonderful! No matter who you support in our elections, I am committed to ensuring you know how to register, and where and when you can legally cast your ballot in our Commonwealth.

We had the great pleasure of welcoming Deputy Secretary for Elections and Commissions, Jonathan Marks, from the PA Department of State to our town hall. He shared some of the many ways our Commonwealth works to secure our elections. He reminded us that for his team and him, the work of election integrity isn’t an every four-year, two-year, or even a twice a year effort: it’s a non-stop full-time job. He also shared the hotline telephone number you can call to ask all kinds of questions or report voting irregularities.

There are many common questions about voting. Do you need to know how to register? Are you wondering where your polling place is or how to get a mail-in ballot? Call 877-VOTESPA (877-868-3772) to get an answer. You can also go online to Vote.PA.gov if you prefer. What's Happening in D.C.:

It’s a busy time in Washington D.C. as Congress grapples with some very big issues before I head home to PA at the end of the week. For those of you who missed our town hall, I’ll share the updates here.

First, I’m happy to report that we passed the Continuing Resolution to fund the government on Wednesday. I firmly believe that fiscal responsibility isn’t a partisan issue — rather, it's a community value in our district. I’m disappointed that many of my colleagues injected politics into the process, but the “clean” resolution allows us to operate through December 20, with no other items attached to it.

Second, we discussed the bipartisan Task Force to Investigate the Attempted Assassination of former President Trump. As you know, I’m one of 13 members of the task force, and we have been asked to expand the scope of the investigation to include the incident in West Palm Beach, FL earlier this month. Our first public hearing was on Thursday. Local law enforcement officials from Butler, PA, the Pennsylvania State Police, a former Secret Service agent, and the medical examiner who conducted the autopsy on the shooter, provided their accounts of the incident. Throughout this process, the local, state and federal agencies have been cooperative and forthcoming. And while there’s a lot of chatter going on, I will tell you what I know when I’m permitted to share information publicly and will work diligently to answer the objectives of the Task Force.

Finally, last week I sent a letter to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy expressing the frustration that my staff and I are hearing from concerned community members about the closure of the Airport Road facility in West Chester. Other post offices, especially the one on Gay Street, are feeling the strain of serving more customers, and we know it’s been challenging to navigate their hours of operation, services offered, home mail delivery expectations and more. I asked Postmaster DeJoy how he plans to address the issues I laid out and further to commit to rebuild and reopen the Airport Road facility. I will keep you in the loop on his response.

Raise Your Voice

Voting is just one way you can express yourself to your government. Another is through a process called a “public comment.” The Pennsylvania Utility Commission (PUC) is asking for public comment on its accelerated plan to replace older plastic pipes in our natural gas distribution systems, one of the solutions I recommended in my bill H.R. 5638, the Aldyl A Hazard Reduction and Community Safety Act, which I wrote after the explosion at the R.M Palmer chocolate factory in West Reading in March 2023. Deadline is October 7 to submit comments, and October 22 to submit comments to any replies you receive.

What's Next:

Our next telephone town hall is right around the corner. On Friday, October 4, we’ll focus on all things Medicare.
