The Constitution guarantees that all citizens are guaranteed the fundamental right to participate in elections. In order to exercise the right to vote in Pennsylvania, you must register to vote. The deadline to register to vote was on October 21, 2024. If you did not register to vote by this date, you are unable to vote in the 2024 General Election.

In order to vote in Pennsylvania, you must:

  • Be a citizen of the United States for at least one month before the election
  • Be a resident of Pennsylvania and the district you are voting in at least 30 days before the election.
  • Be at least 18 years of age on or before the election.
Many people have questions about whether or not you need to show an ID when going to the polls.  If you are voting in person, the first time voting at a new precinct or polling place, you must present a form of official ID (state-issued driver’s license, state-issued ID, etc.). After establishing your legal identity at a polling place, you do not need to show your ID again.

Important Dates

  • Polls are open throughout Pennsylvania on Tuesday, November 5 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
    • Find your local polling place here.
    • Pennsylvania does NOT offer same day registration.

Early Voting

If you want to vote early in-person during an election, you must check with your county election office.

Instructions on Early Voting in Pennsylvania:

  1. Go to your county’s election office.
  2. Fill out a mail ballot request form on site and wait for it to be verified.
  3. Receive and complete your ballot following the instructions provided.
  4. Place your completed ballot in the inner secrecy envelope labeled “official ballot” and seal it. Your ballot MUST be in the secrecy envelope to be counted.
  5. Seal the smaller secrecy envelope inside the pre-addressed larger, outer return envelope. Your ballot MUST be in both envelopes to be counted.
  6. Sign and date the voter declaration on the back of the outer return envelope.
  7. Hand it back to your county’s election office staff for processing.

Ballot Return Locations

Your county election office must RECEIVE your completed mail ballot by November 5, 2024, at 8 p.m. A postmarked ballot by 8 p.m. on November 5 is not sufficient. Because of this, voters should bring their ballots to a designated ballot drop-box instead of shipping them via mail to ensure their ballot is received in time. You cannot return a mail ballot at your polling place.
