As a member of the Task Force to Combat Mexican Drug Cartels and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, I am constantly thinking about how to stop the flow of fentanyl and other threats into our nation. In fact, my legislation to better track drug traffickers recently passed the House and is expected to pass the Senate today. As the daughter and granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, I also know immigrants are a crucial part of what makes our country so great – we see that in our own vibrant immigrant communities like Kennett Square and Reading!
During the town hall, we talked extensively about why bipartisan legislation is the only way to create durable and lasting change. Sadly, the House is poised to again vote on legislation that includes H.R. 2, a highly partisan bill that I outlined back in a January newsletter. I am in favor of bipartisan legislation that brings together Democrats and Republicans, such as the DIGNITY Act that I cosponsored. We talked about those bills and more during the town hall, which you can listen to here.
Defending U.S. national security
As many of you saw, Iran launched an unprecedented attack toward Israel last weekend, which was especially alarming because of the implications for escalation in the region. On Sunday, I shared my initial thoughts on the attack and the continued urgent need to pass a national security supplemental to address this and other conflicts around the world. Now is a critical time for us to stand for our shared democratic values, and I support additional aid for Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, and the dire humanitarian crisis and famine in Gaza.
As I write this update, the House is preparing to vote tomorrow on a package of national security aid. I will keep you informed as we move forward.
Congrats to the Congressional Art Competition Winners!
