RELEASE: Representative Houlahan Responds To Trump Administration’s Use Of Federal Troops Without ID By Securing Bipartisan Legislation To Require Clear and Recognizable Identification On Federal Authorities

WASHINGTON – Today, Representative Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) announced that the National Defense Authorization Act, the annual defense bill, includes her historic, bipartisan legislation to require greater transparency when Federal authorities are deployed in crisis situations. This bill, which was adopted unanimously to the House bill in June requires any law enforcement official deployed under the Insurrection Act to be clearly identified by name and agency. Recognizing the value in this bipartisan proposal, the final NDAA includes a requirement that any Federal law enforcement or military personnel who provides support to Federal authorities in response to a civil disturbance visibly display their agency and a unique identifier, like their name.

“Like many Americans, I was disturbed to see unidentified, uniformed personnel on our streets during protests this summer,” said Houlahan. “This is a huge victory for transparency and public safety, ensuring that civilians, law enforcement and military alike can identify who is who in a crisis situation. I’m proud to have led this effort in the House and thank the leadership of the Armed Services Committees for their work to ensure this important provision was included in the final bill.”

Representative Houlahan discussed these actions by the President on MSNBC back in June. Full video here.

Houlahan is an Air Force veteran, an engineer, a serial entrepreneur, an educator, and a nonprofit leader. She’s in her first term representing Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional District, which encompasses Chester County and southern Berks County. She serves on the House Armed Services Committee, the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and the House Small Business Committee.
