Houlahan Statement on President Biden’s Joint Address

WASHINGTON – Today, Representatives Chrissy Houlahan issued the following response to President Biden’s joint address to Congress and the nation:

“Tonight, President Joe Biden addressed the nation at a historic time as we continue to battle this pandemic. Great progress has been made in our fight – all adult Americans are eligible for a vaccine, businesses and schools are opening safely and our economy is rebounding. These gains are in large parts thanks to both the provisions in the American Rescue Plan and you, the people of this country who have sacrificed so much for the greater good. Of course, our work is far from done. As we look to rebuild, we must deliberately address the gaps in our economy – grow our middle class, strengthen the Affordable Care Act, build a more equitable and inclusive society, and make it so that every working family has the opportunity to thrive in Pennsylvania and beyond. What I heard from President Biden tonight is a commitment to that vision.

“President Biden also took time to lay out his American Families Plan, a vision for a historic investment in working families. Among other things it will help increase access to quality education for our students, provide more equitable economic opportunities and invest in economic infrastructure like paid leave and childcare to ensure that working parents don’t have to choose between building a family and a career. I look forward to working with the Administration and my colleagues – both Democrats and Republicans – to help perfect and deliver these wins to the people of Pennsylvania.”
