Houlahan Statement on the Fiscal Responsibility Act

Today, Representative Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) issued the following statement on her vote to suspend the U.S. debt limit until January 2025:

“Yesterday, I voted YES on H.R. 3746, the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023. I voted in favor of this bipartisan compromise to raise the debt ceiling because it was necessary to save our country from default and potential economic collapse. I think we can all agree that this brinksmanship is no way to operate and is a disservice to our constituents who want us to solve problems, not create or exacerbate them. I am eager to work with colleagues to create mechanisms to prevent this from happening again.”

Houlahan is an Air Force veteran, an engineer, a serial entrepreneur, an educator, and a nonprofit leader. She represents Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional District, which encompasses Chester County and southern Berks County. She serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. She is the recipient of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Abraham Lincoln Leadership for America Award which “recognizes members who demonstrate the bipartisan leadership and constructive governing necessary to move our country forward” and the Congressional Management Foundation’s 2022 Democracy Award for best Constituent Services in Congress.
