Houlahan, National Security Democrats Call on Speaker Johnson to Immediately Bring Senate Foreign Aid Bill to House Floor

  • Chrissy at Nat Sec Press Conference

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA), joined by fellow national security Democrats Jake Auchincloss (D-MA), Salud Carbajal (D-CA), Jason Crow (D-CO), Seth Moulton (D-MA), Pat Ryan (D-NY), Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ), and Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), sent a letter to Speaker Johnson urging him to immediately bring the Senate-passed bipartisan foreign aid bill for a vote on the House floor.

“We write as those who have served this nation before joining Congress or now serve on the House Armed Services Committee and House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence,” the lawmakers wrote. “As you are aware, this morning our Senate colleagues passed a critical and urgent bipartisan aid package for our allies Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. This legislation is long overdue, and we applaud the Senate for its demonstration of unified American leadership to secure global and national security and peace.”

“Our impact on the future of democracy has never been more clear. Ukraine now enters its third year of war with Russia with a depleted stockpile of weapons and necessary supplies, the threat of Hamas still looms large in Israel and Gaza, and China’s intentions within the Indo-Pacific region are of deep concern. The stakes of failing to enact this legislation now cannot be overstated. Therefore, we implore you to take up this legislation immediately.”

The lawmakers concluded: “The national security of the United States demands that we act and act now. We have always been a beacon of hope for democracies around the world, and now is not the time to waver in that commitment. Our inaction today may very well result in future conflicts and put our own men and women in uniform in harm’s way. Let us be clear, the fallout from global conflict will not only impact our allies, but also the American way of life. For the successful resolution of current conflicts and to prevent future conflict we ask you to call a vote now.”
