WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) invited high school students in Pennsylvania’s Sixth Congressional District, which includes all of Chester County and the southern portion of Berks County, to submit original artwork for the annual Congressional Art Competition. The deadline for submission is Thursday, March 14 and must be done through each student’s art teacher.

Every year, the U.S. House of Representatives holds an art competition to recognize and celebrate the artistic talents of high school students from across the country. The winning artwork from each district is displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year alongside winners from every congressional district. A brief overview can be found below. Full details and instructions can be found on Houlahan’s website.

“As a former educator, I am truly filled with pride each year during the Congressional Art Competition,” said Houlahan. “Seeing the abundance of artistic talent in our community is inspiring and a great reminder that the ‘A’ in ‘STEAM’ education stands for something near and dear to my heart – art! I encourage all eligible students to submit their original artwork and look forward to seeing the chosen piece displayed in the Capitol on my walks to the House floor. There are so many talented young people across our country, and I’m thankful for the joy they bring to all our lives through art.”

Requirements:

Artwork must be two-dimensional. Each framed artwork can be no larger than 26 inches high, 26 inches wide, and 4 inches deep. If your artwork is selected as the winning piece, it must arrive in Washington, DC, framed. Even when framed, it must still measure no larger than the above maximum dimensions. No framed piece should weigh more than 15 pounds.
