Congresswoman Houlahan Secures $12 Million in Community Project Funding Grants for Chester and Berks Counties Organizations

Today, Representative Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) announced $12 million in community funding grants she has secured for 14 projects across Chester and Berks Counties. These funds will be invested in local workforce development, community safety, health care capabilities, and educational opportunities that will help Pennsylvania’s 6th District continue to thrive. 

“This is a direct investment in the people and organizations that keep our community running,” said Houlahan. “I am proud to bring this funding back to our district to help the local fire departments, health care facilities, community college programs, and other essential organizations that are making Chester and Berks Counties safer, healthier, and better positioned for long-term success.”    

The following grants have each been signed into law for Fiscal Year 2026: 

  • $1,015,000 for Barclay Friends in West Chester to renovate and expand memory care facilities, doubling their capacity to serve seniors with dementia. 

  • $850,000 for the City of Reading to expand the 11th and Pike Recreation Center, bringing more recreational, community, and educational opportunities to young people in the area. 

  • $3,150,000 for East Whiteland Township to improve Route 30, including widening roadways and alleviating congestion. 

  • $850,000 for Goshen Fire Company to build a new fire and EMS station serving East Goshen, West Goshen, Westtown, and Willistown townships. 

  • $100,000 for the Kennett Square Police Department to support officers and community well-being by replacing outdated equipment and improving deescalation tools. 

  • $199,000 for Keystone Valley Fire Department to replace critical Self-Contained Breathing Apparatuses (SCBA) so that firefighters can safely respond to emergencies.  

  • $1,000,000 for Ludwigs Corner Fire Company Building Renovation to expand and improve the functionality and safety of the fire station, including training spaces and volunteer firefighter support. 

  • $217,000 for the New London Counseling Center to expand their mental health facility, allowing them to serve more than 100 new individuals and families.  

  • $2,000,000 for Reading Area Community College to expand their Schmidt Training and Technology Center Expansion for Workforce Development and meet the evolving needs of the regional manufacturing sector. 

  • $800,000 for Reentry Works in Reading to provide workforce development support, including employment preparation and computer literacy, to individuals reintegrating after incarceration.  

  • $71,000 for Valley Township Public Safety to modernize and replace traffic safety equipment along Lincoln Highway and Airport Road. 

  • $36,000 for Wagontown Volunteer Fire Company to replace their breathing air compressor and filling station, ensuring that firefighters can safely perform essential emergency tasks.    

  • $1,000,000 for West Fallowfield Township to construct a water line connecting unserved areas in the township to public water service. 

  • $850,000 for West Grove Memorial Park to enhance recreational opportunities for residents, including installing an artificial turf field.   

These investments reflect Representative Houlahan’s continued commitment to supporting innovation and safety throughout Pennsylvania’s 6th District.
