Rep. Houlahan Votes to Terminate Emergency Declaration

WASHINGTON – Today, Representative Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06) voted for H.J. Res. 46, a bipartisan resolution to terminate President Trump’s emergency declaration. The resolution passed the House with 245 votes.

By using the national emergency to fund a wall along the Southern border, the President would be reallocating certain Department of Defense funds that could impact our national security, military readiness, and military projects here in Pennsylvania. It also circumvents the appropriations process and contravenes Congressional funding authority.

“I voted for this resolution in the interests of protecting our national security,” said Houlahan. “The President’s National Emergency declaration has the potential to put an unnecessary strain on our troops, which could lead to unintended consequences for our military’s readiness and our national priorities. We just passed a bipartisan, bicameral funding bill signed by the President that appropriated billions for border security. Using the National Emergencies Act to reallocate funding is not how our government should operate.”

Houlahan is an Air Force veteran, an engineer, a serial entrepreneur, an educator, and a nonprofit leader. She’s in her first term representing Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional District, which encompasses Chester County and southern Berks County. She serves on the House Armed Services Committee, the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and the House Small Business Committee.
