Rep. Houlahan Holds Gun Violence Prevention Roundtable in West Chester

WEST CHESTER, PA – Today, Representative Houlahan hosted a gun violence prevention roundtable in her West Chester District Office. This meeting comes on the heels of her co-sponsoring and voting for H.R. 8 and H.R. 1112. Both bills have passed the House.

The Bipartisan Background Checks Act (H.R.8) would require background checks on all firearms sales.

The Enhanced Background Checks Act (H.R.1112) would close the “Charleston loophole” by extending the initial background check review period from three to ten days.

At this roundtable were a number of a gun violence victims and survivors from Pennsylvania’s 6th District: Liz & Joe Loeper, whose son Jamie was killed in an accidental shooting, Starr Cummin Bright, a mother who survived after getting violently shot by a mentally unstable man, Tiffany Perkins-Nixon, whose son Eric Brown Jr. was shot at the Star Social Club in West Chester last year over a dispute about a basketball game, Dianne Lanham, an emergency room trauma nurse, Carmen Lobis, whose grandson Ben was a Sandy Hook victim, David Peacefull, whose father committed suicide, and Michelle Roberson, whose daughter Bianca was shot and killed mere months after graduating high school.

“I was proud to see Congress take action last week when I co-sponsored and voted for H.R. 8 and H.R. 1112, both of which passed the House,” said Houlahan. “Hearing these traumatic stories today from people in my community was a sobering reminder of the work we still have to do. Congress must continue to take action to curb gun violence; as your elected Representative, I will continue to fight for these victims and survivors.”

Houlahan is an Air Force veteran, an engineer, a serial entrepreneur, an educator, and a nonprofit leader. She’s in her first term representing Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional District, which encompasses Chester County and southern Berks County. She serves on the House Armed Services Committee, the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and the House Small Business Committee.
