WASHINGTON – Representative Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) introduced the Accelerated Payments for Small Businesses Act (H.R. 2322) alongside several of her colleagues from both sides of the aisle. The Lead Democrat on the legislation, Representative Houlahan is proud to see Congress working proactively to ensure small businesses both in PA and across the country receive their pay for government contracting work in a timely fashion. The bill would direct federal government agencies that contract with small businesses, which comprise 99.7% of all firms with paid employees in America, to pay those small businesses within 15 days, rather than the current 30-day standard. “Small businesses in PA and across the country represent a critical component to our national economic well-being,” said Houlahan. “In our community, the Pennsylvania Sixth, over 99% of the firms are considered small businesses. I am introducing this bill because I understand that success of small businesses translates into success for our country. Accelerated payments from the federal government is an important first step in addressing the needs of the many Americans who run, or are employed by, these small businesses.” Houlahan is an Air Force veteran, an engineer, a serial entrepreneur, an educator, and a nonprofit leader. She’s in her first term representing Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional District, which encompasses Chester County and southern Berks County. She serves on the House Armed Services Committee, the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and the House Small Business Committee.
