Representative Houlahan Welcomes USMCA Progress

WASHINGTON – Today, Representative Chrissy Houlahan issued the following statement on the path forward for the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA):

“Trade is crucial to the growth of Pennsylvania’s economy and the success of our small businesses,” said Houlahan. “I applaud the efforts of House leadership and the Democratic Working Group to reach a deal on a U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement that is beneficial to U.S. companies and workers alike. I am also grateful for Ambassador Lighthizer and his team, as well as our Mexican and Canadian partners, for their continued willingness to negotiate to get this deal right, especially on the critical issue of ensuring the effectiveness of the USMCA’s enforcement mechanisms.”

“Canada and Mexico are Pennsylvania’s largest export markets, and I have heard from stakeholders from all corners of our community about the benefits this agreement would bring to our farmers, manufacturers, and other industries. As an entrepreneur, I believe strong trade agreements can create opportunities for economic growth while protecting our workers and the environment. I look forward to seeing the details of the agreement and holding a vote on the House floor.”

Houlahan is an Air Force veteran, an engineer, a serial entrepreneur, an educator, and a nonprofit leader. She’s in her first term representing Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional District, which encompasses Chester County and southern Berks County. She serves on the House Armed Services Committee, the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and the House Small Business Committee.
