Houlahan Visits PA National Guard in Washington

Hosts fireside chat with female Guard members and delivers Wawa

WASHINGTON – Today, Representative Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) visited with PA National Guard members stationed in Washington, DC in light of the attacks on the Capitol on January 6th. She went to extend her gratitude to these brave servicemembers who have continued to protect our democracy during these difficult times. As a hometown treat, she brought a Pennsylvania staple – Wawa.

“I will never cease to be inspired by our brave Pennsylvania National Guard members standing up for our democracy,” said Houlahan. “The fact that these servicemembers continue their mission during these difficult times reminds us of how important that mission is – safeguarding our democratic institutions wherever they are threatened. I was privileged to spend time with them this morning and hear about their duties and responsibilities.”

Representative Houlahan also led a fireside chat with PA’s female Guard members. As Founder and Chair of the Servicewomen and Women Veterans Caucus, Rep. Houlahan used this opportunity to hear directly from women wearing the uniform.

“It’s always an honor to sit down with women serving our country and hear directly from them,” said Houlahan. “Today’s conversation was both inspiring and a reminder that we as a country have work to do to make our military truly equal across gender lines. During today’s fireside chat, we discussed the struggles women face while maintaining both their Guard duties and their civilian job, returning to the Guard after childbirth and more. These are the kind of conversations that spark federal action – legislative and otherwise – and I am already at work with my team to see how we can best address the needs of our servicewomen and their families.”

Houlahan is an Air Force veteran, an engineer, a serial entrepreneur, an educator and a nonprofit leader. She represents Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional District, which encompasses Chester County and southern Berks County. She serves on the House Armed Services Committee, the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Small Business Committee.
