WASHINGTON – Today, Representative Houlahan hosted a public forum examining the critical role community college will play as Pennsylvania works to rebuild its economy and generate jobs and academic opportunities for workers and students of all skill and income levels. Joining the Congresswoman from Delaware County Community College were Dr. L. Joy Gates Black, President, Dr. Karen Kozachyn, Vice President of Workforce and Economic Development, and Dr. Mary Jo Boyer, Vice President of Branch Campus Operations.

“Community college will play a vital role in our economic recovery,” said Houlahan. “Tonight, we had a robust conversation with the leaders of Delaware County Community College and focused on how the programs offered there will be helpful to students and working families as we focus on increasing access to education, and by extension, access to jobs and financial stability. We have the responsibility right now to capitalize on the momentum that is our growing economy and help ensure we have workers with the necessary skills and education to succeed in the 21st century. Community college will help bridge the skills gap in a post-COVID economy.”

“Delaware County Community College is working hard to meet the needs of our communities,” said Dr. L. Joy Gates Black. “This is possible because of the strong partnerships we have with our school districts, with our university partners, and with business and industry.”

“Dual Enrollment Structured Pathways offer students the opportunity to take specific courses, in a prescribed sequence, toward a career certificate or an associate degree,” said Dr. Mary Jo Boyer.

Houlahan is an Air Force veteran, an engineer, a serial entrepreneur, an educator and a nonprofit leader. She represents Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional District, which encompasses Chester County and southern Berks County.
