WASHINGTON – Yesterday, Representative Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) attended President Joe Biden’s speech focused on protecting Americans’ right to vote. As her guests, Rep. Houlahan brought Michael Toledo, President & CEO, Centro Hispano, Rev. Kyle Boyer, West Chester NAACP former president and educator, Marian D. Moskowitz, Chair, Board of Commissioners’ County of Chester and Mayor Peter J. Urscheler, Borough of Phoenixville.

“The right to vote is sacrosanct,” said Houlahan. “I served this country in the Air Force and now in Congress because I believe in the majesty of our Constitution, in the fundamental tenet of our democracy – every eligible American has the right to make their voice heard at the ballot box. President Biden did not mince words yesterday. He and I both understand that the right to vote is under assault. I want to be clear with the people of Pennsylvania – politicization of voting rights is antithetical and dangerous to our democracy. Anyone who has served this country knows that the right to vote cannot be taken for granted – and I will stand on the frontlines defending every American’s right to the ballot box. To do anything less would be a betrayal of my oath of office.”

“For years the Centro Hispano has led voter engagement and voter registration efforts in our Greater Reading community so that our collective and diverse community voices could be heard through our vote,” said Michael Toledo, President & CEO, Centro Hispano. “Yesterday, the President affirmed the importance of the grassroot work that needs to continue so that every vote counts.”

“I’m able to vote today because of a cloud of witnesses who rejected the politics of disenfranchisement in favor of the principles of democracy,” said Rev. Kyle Boyer, West Chester NAACP former president and educator. “President Biden understands the importance of reaffirming our commitment to those principles, and it was an honor to witness him speak to that effect today.”

“Last year’s election in Chester County was safe and secure. And the same is true across the Commonwealth. The Chester County Board of Commissioners — Republican and Democrat alike — voted to certify the election because we knew it was free and fair based on real evidence rather than social media conspiracy theories,” said Marian D. Moskowitz, Chair, Board of Commissioners’ County of Chester. “Lies continue to be propagated that are being used as justification to undermine voting rights across the country. All of us, from the county level to Washington, must stand against these efforts and reaffirm the sacredness of voting in America. Our democracy cannot and must not succumb to these baseless attacks.”

“The right to vote is the very bedrock of our democracy. Elected officials, at every level must put aside their political differences and ensure, not only the safety and security of our election process but also that every person who is eligible to vote, is able to do so fairly and freely and that their vote will be counted,” said Mayor Peter J. Urscheler, Borough of Phoenixville. “Voting ensures that our voices are heard and that the will of our people will prevail. Thank you to President Biden and to all those who ensure the power of our great nation resides within the people.”
