WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA), the New Democrat Coalition (NDC) Whip, has announced she is a founding member of the caucus’ new Inflation Working Group to help advance policy solutions that will lower costs for American families, reinforce supply chains, and fight short- and long-term inflationary pressures. The NDC is made up of 97 forward-thinking Democrats who are committed to policies that are pro-economic growth, pro-innovation, and fiscally responsible.

“It’s my responsibility to be a voice for our community, and I’m hearing the same message again and again: we need to get inflation under control,” said Houlahan. “I’m dedicated to fighting inflation, lowering high costs, and strengthening our supply chains – that’s why I joined my colleagues in helping start the New Democrat Coalition Inflation Working Group.”

“I have been listening to Pennsylvania families about how inflation is affecting them in the checkout line and at the gas pump, and I know Congress must work quickly to address it,” added Houlahan. “Too many Americans are faced with rising prices and tighter budgets, and this Inflation Working Group will be critical to advancing policy solutions to help them.”

Congress has worked to address various elevated costs by extending operations at major ports, releasing oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, and enacting the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Houlahan also recently voted to pass the America COMPETES Act to strengthen U.S. supply chains and combat long-term inflation.

“Our economic recovery has been strong and widespread with growth in several sectors, but like the rest of the world, many Americans are facing rising costs driven by the pandemic,” said NDC Chair Suzan DelBene (WA-01). “From feeding their families to heating their homes, New Dems have heard how inflation is impacting our constituents’ daily lives. Our members are listening and have established the Inflation Working Group to advance policies that will address these challenges and lower costs for Americans. I thank Rep. Houlahan for her leadership on this pressing issue.”

"Under the Biden administration, our economy has recovered in terms of jobs and growth. Now, Americans are feelings effects of inflation, and New Dems want to make sure that we are doing everything we can in Congress to help," said NDC Vice Chair for Policy Scott Peters (CA-52). "This new working group – the first of its kind within the New Democrat Coalition—will push for solutions that target the sources of inflation, strengthen supply chains, and ease escalating prices. Our coalition is taking charge to ensure our constituents can take full advantage of our robust economy."

Houlahan is an Air Force veteran, an engineer, a serial entrepreneur, an educator and a nonprofit leader. She represents Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional District, which encompasses Chester County and southern Berks County. She serves on the House Armed Services Committee, the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Small Business Committee. She is the recipient of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Abraham Lincoln Leadership for America Award which “recognizes members who demonstrate the bipartisan leadership and constructive governing necessary to move our country forward.”
