WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) issued the following statement on President Biden’s State of the Union Address: “Tonight, President Biden spoke on the pressing issues facing our country and how we can work to tackle them in the next year,” said Houlahan. “I was also pleased to see him recount some of our recent successes and the work we’ve done that positively impacts my district.” “In 2022, Democrats worked with Republicans and with the executive branch to expand health care for veterans, enact the most comprehensive gun violence prevention legislation in nearly three decades, and lower prescription drug prices for millions of Americans, among many other things,” said Houlahan. “In the next year we will defend these gains while continuing to work in a bipartisan and bicameral manner to achieve even more.” “Our economy is in a much better place than it was a year ago. In January alone, the economy created over half a million jobs and the unemployment rate fell to 3.4% for the first time in over four decades. We must continue this economic momentum to ensure we have an economy that works for everyone and maintains America’s status as the leader in the global economy.” “Lastly, President Biden’s mention of paid leave is a huge step in making access to paid leave for more Americans a priority. This is something I’ve been working on since I came to Congress and welcome partnership from the executive branch on this issue,” said Houlahan. Houlahan is an Air Force veteran, an engineer, a serial entrepreneur, an educator, and a nonprofit leader. She represents Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional District, which encompasses Chester County and southern Berks County. She serves on the House Armed Services Committee, the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. She is the recipient of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Abraham Lincoln Leadership for America Award which “recognizes members who demonstrate the bipartisan leadership and constructive governing necessary to move our country forward” and the Congressional Management Foundation’s 2022 Democracy Award for best Constituent Services in Congress. ### |
