Houlahan Celebrates 2023 Service Academy Appointees, Nominees

WEST CHESTER, PA – Yesterday, Representative Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) celebrated Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional District’s 2023 appointees and nominees for the United States Service Academies. Houlahan’s academy board, which is comprised of local community leaders, nominated 24 students for U.S. Service Academies this fall. Thirteen were appointed by those academies. Four of the five U.S. Service Academies require students to receive a nomination from their U.S. Senator, Congressperson, or the Vice President, in order to attend. These students will attend the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, or the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and then serve a minimum of five years in their respective branch after graduation.

“As an Air Force Veteran, I know how rewarding and challenging military service is. I am so honored that thirteen students in Berks and Chester Counties are taking the tremendous step to attend our service academies,” said Houlahan. “I look forward to seeing their hard work at their respective academies and in their service upon graduation. Military service is an extraordinary commitment to our country, and I am proud of these students who’ve made this exciting decision in their academic and professional careers.”

Applications are now open for students seeking a nomination to a service academy for the fall of 2024. Information on how to apply can be found here or under the “student info” tab on Houlahan.House.Gov. Applications are due October 16, 2023.

Houlahan is an Air Force veteran, an engineer, a serial entrepreneur, an educator, and a nonprofit leader. She represents Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional District, which encompasses Chester County and southern Berks County. She serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. She is the recipient of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Abraham Lincoln Leadership for America Award which “recognizes members who demonstrate the bipartisan leadership and constructive governing necessary to move our country forward” and the Congressional Management Foundation’s 2022 Democracy Award for best Constituent Services in Congress.
