WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) released the following statement following her vote on the resolution to expel Rep. George Santos (R-NY):
"Like my last vote regarding Rep. Santos, I voted present today - this time on a vote to expel him from Congress. My position might indicate that I do not believe the allegations against him are serious and founded. Nothing could be further from the truth. Every indication suggests that a damning report will be forthcoming from the House Ethics Committee's investigation, and as such, justice will be forthcoming as well. I have faith in the diligent work of both the House Ethics Committee and the courts, and I will reserve my judgment until I am able to review the recommendation of the the committee or until such time as he has been convicted in a court of law. While some of my colleagues view this differently, I remain concerned about the precedent this action may set." "Furthermore, waiting to vote on Rep. Santos' expulsion until we've seen the committee's evidence would likely leave no doubt in the chamber's consciousness about whether or not he should be expelled. Tragically, tonight's premature vote enables too many of my colleagues to evade accountability, especially considering this vote requires a largely bipartisan vote of two-thirds to pass." |
