WASHINGTON – Today, Representative Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) voted to pass H.R. 9, the Climate Action Now Act, which included her crucial amendment. The legislation ensures the United States honors our commitments detailed in the Paris Agreement and lays the groundwork for further climate action. Houlahan’s amendment requires the Administration’s strategy to include how the United States can use all the diplomatic tools available to help our partners around the world achieve their announced contributions to the Agreement. The House passed the bill 231-190.

“Science is not a partisan issue, and the science in this case is crystal clear,” said Houlahan. “Climate change is happening. And we are causing it. Inaction on this threat harms our economy, national security, and health. I refuse to stand by and do nothing. This is a fight for our country, for our children, and for humanity. I am proud to cosponsor and pass H.R. 9, which includes my amendment that would require the President to include in the Administration’s strategy how the United States can use all the diplomatic tools available to help our partners around the world meet their own goals. I am in this fight for Pennsylvania, for our country, and for our planet.”

H.R. 9, the Climate Action Now Act and Houlahan’s amendment will:

·         prohibit any federal funds from being used to take any action to advance the withdrawal of the U.S. from the Paris Agreement

·         call on the President to develop and make public a plan for how the United States will meet the pollution reduction goals submitted to the world in 2015

Houlahan is an Air Force veteran, an engineer, a serial entrepreneur, an educator, and a nonprofit leader. She’s in her first term representing Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional District, which encompasses Chester County and southern Berks County. She serves on the House Armed Services Committee, the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and the House Small Business Committee.
