Houlahan, Williams Lead New Democrat Coalition Task Force on Economic Growth

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) announced she is chairing the New Democrat Coalition (NDC)’s Economic Growth and Fiscal Responsibility Task Force alongside Vice Chair Nikema Williams (D-GA). The goal of the task force is to advance policies that promote equitable economic growth and a sustainable fiscal path. In addition, with NDC Vice Chair for Communications Brad Schneider (D-IL), the group will work to ensure Members know and understand economic data from federal policies.

“Prioritizing fiscal responsibility and equitable economic growth are two things we owe the American people,” said Houlahan. “As we engage in difficult conversations on our country’s debt, there has never been a more important time for this task force to exist and I am honored to be its chair. I know Vice Chair Williams will be a great partner in this effort and I look forward to continuing our work.”

“Serving as Vice Chair of the New Dems Economic Growth and Fiscal Responsibility Task Force presents another opportunity to set economic policies that leave no one behind. We have a lot of work to do to ensure historically marginalized communities have access to every resource they need to achieve the American Dream. I look forward to working with Representative Houlahan to create more paths to economic opportunity for more people,” said Williams.

The group plans to meet twice a quarter to propose fiscally responsible policy priorities, push for policies to close the wealth gap, promote entrepreneurial equity, and engage with the executive branch to ensure the U.S. is promoting a worker-focused and sustainable economy.

Houlahan has been a member of the New Democrat Coalition since joining Congress in 2019 and was the freshman whip in the 116th Congress and the whip for the 117th Congress. Last year, she was a founding member of the caucus’ Inflation Working Group which helped advance policy solutions to lower costs for American families.

Houlahan is an Air Force veteran, an engineer, a serial entrepreneur, an educator, and a nonprofit leader. She represents Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional District, which encompasses Chester County and southern Berks County. She serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. She is the recipient of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Abraham Lincoln Leadership for America Award which “recognizes members who demonstrate the bipartisan leadership and constructive governing necessary to move our country forward” and the Congressional Management Foundation’s 2022 Democracy Award for best Constituent Services in Congress.
