Housing

Safe, stable, and affordable housing is essential for families and communities to thrive. I am championing efforts to expand access, reduce costs, and invest in solutions that keep people in their homes. Even when action stalls in Washington, I am working to make housing more attainable for every American.

Lower the Cost of Owning or Renting

  • Invest in Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) programs that support affordable housing, rental assistance, and first-time homeownership

  • Encourage developers to build more affordable homes by providing tax credits

  • Provide federal assistance for home repairs so families can stay safely in their homes

Build More Homes

  • Repeal tariffs on items most commonly used in construction of residential buildings

  • Increase availability of high-density residential buildings near public transit and schools by withholding federal funds to states which don’t reform restrictive permitting and zoning laws

  • Increase availability of high-density residential buildings by providing tax credits to developers who convert empty commercial buildings into residential ones

  • Transform vacant federal buildings into residential housing

Reduce Homelessness:

  • Invest in federal programs that help individuals and families experiencing homelessness, including support for veterans and emergency housing assistance

  • Help homeless youth by giving states more resources to support homeless and at-risk young people
