Civil Rights

While we as a nation have made great progress, we still have a long road ahead of us until our Constitution’s promise of equality under the law is realized for all American citizens, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity , or sexual orientation.

As the proud mother of a gay daughter, I have fought tirelessly to ensure equality for her, for every Pennsylvanian, and for our fellow LGBTQ+ Americans, regardless of gender identity, race, ethnicity, background, or sexual orientation.

In Congress, I helped pass the Equality Act to ensure all LGBTQ+ Americans are guaranteed the full protections of federal civil right laws. This historic legislation will extend anti-discrimination protections to LGBTQ+ Americans with regard to employment, education, access to credit, jury service, federal funding, housing, and public accommodation.

For too long, Black lives have been lost to police brutality. That's why I cosponsored and voted for the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act to address systemic racism and build a more equitable justice system for Black Americans. This bill will hold police accountable, change the culture of law enforcement, and build trust between law enforcement and our communities.

I am committed to actively pursuing policies that address and remedy systemic inequality across our Commonwealth and country.
